Who Is Anthony Philipson?

Anthony Philipson is a British director and producer, best known for his powerful work in dramas and documentaries. He started his career working on entertainment shows including the first series of reality TV hit Big Brother. Many BAFTA nominations later, the innovative director has revolutionised modern television.

Awards

One of Anthony’s best achievements to date is directing the first episode of the series: Ross Kemp On Gangs, which went on to win the 2007 BAFTA for ‘Best Factual Series’. Anthony then went on to direct the entire first series of TV staple: 24 Hours In A&E, which won both ‘Best Documentary Series’ and ‘Best Multicamera Series’ from the National Television Society. Anthony’s work has also been nominated for multiple awards, such as the breathtaking space drama 8 Days To The Moon And Back, which was nominated for five awards, including Rose D’or’s ‘Best Drama’ and the 2020 BAFTA for ‘Specialist Factual’.

Range Of Styles

Anthony has also displayed a fantastically diverse range of skills in directing, producing and writing a range of styles and genres. Starting out working on entertainment shows such as Big Brother and Big Breakfast which went on to be huge successes. He then moved on to factual television and documentaries including the award-winning Ross Kemp On Gangs and 24 hours in A&E. These achievements led Anthony into drama where he was lead director on the primetime BBC 1 drama, Our Girl along with Youngers for E4 and the Emmy nominated second series of My Mad Fat Diary.

Writing

More recently, Anthony Philipson has not only displayed his award-winning directing skills but shown his hand in writing. He demonstrated both skills in Liverpool Narcos by writing and directing the 3 part drama-documentary series for Sky. Along with writing and directing the 2017 Channel 4 drama, Shamed which centres around the cool and calm Sarah Ivy, whose world collapsed around her 10 years previously.
